What to do this weekend in Mayfield-Graves County

Spend the Day in Mayfield-Graves County

The first thing you need to see in Mayfield-Graves County is the Wooldridge Monuments. I mean, don’t you want to witness the spectacle that put Mayfield-Graves County in “Ripley’s Believe It Or Not” AND on the cover of the book Weird Kentucky???

Next, head over to the Mayfield Graves County Fairgrounds to see Cartwright Grove. A group of volunteers created this “Wild West Town” with private funds and hosts many open house events throughout the year. Even if this isn’t one of the weekends you get to go inside the buildings, you can still walk through “the Grove”, peek in the windows, and almost hear the wagon wheels riding through town.

Make sure you stop for lunch at one of our famous BBQ restaurants. Mayfield-Graves County has 4 restaurants on Kentucky’s Western Waterlands BBQ Trail, and you can’t go wrong at any of the 4. Each restaurant has a specialty; ask what their bestseller is and order that!

You’re probably going to need to walk off lunch now. Head over to Kess Creek Park next to enjoy any number of outdoor activities. The kids can run through the spray park in summer or play on the playground equipment year-round. You can walk the trails or play some putt putt golf. Heck, if you brought your fishing gear, you can even sit for a spell and fish!

Ready for a climate-controlled environment? Visit the Ice House Gallery to see the latest art show and to purchase works from local artisans in their gift shop. The Art Guild offers many classes throughout the year and includes an excellent “Maker Space”, so you just might get to see art being created while you’re there.

Now it’s time to really shop! Mayfield-Graves County has some of the cutest, most unique boutiques, flower, and gift shops around – 25 locally owned businesses that will welcome you and help you find anything you need, even if it’s at another one of our shops!

Before you head back home, stop for dinner at one of our locally owned restaurants. Mayfield-Graves County is home to more than 30 locally owned restaurants, and you know you can’t go wrong when you eat where the locals eat.

On your way home, plan your next trip back to coincide with one of our festivals and remember to bring friends and family with you! Safe travels!

Spend the Weekend in Mayfield-Graves County

Friday Night means you need to visit the Fancy Farm Vineyard & Winery! In addition to the delicious wines, they also frequently have live music you can enjoy. While in Fancy Farm, go by and visit the St. Jerome Museum and walk through the Fancy Farm Picnic Grounds – famous for hosting the “World’s Largest Picnic” on the first Saturday of August every year.

Saturday

After dinner, check to see if the Purchase Players Community Performing Arts Center has a show running; if so, grab your ticket before they sell out! If you aren’t lucky enough to grab a show ticket, consider heading back to the Fancy Farm Winery to taste some different wines or maybe listen to music again. Beware of their Karaoke nights…they’re contagiously fun!

Sunday

Sunday afternoon is the perfect time to get out and see all of Graves County by following our Barn Quilt Trail! Sleep in or visit one of our many local church services and then, after lunch, hop in your car, grab our map, and follow the Trail to see more than 30 Quilt Barns scattered throughout our beautiful county!

Monday

Monday morning you need to head over to the Mayfield Graves County Fairgrounds to visit Trade Day, held every Monday, year-round! This is the best flea market in the region and people travel from all our surrounding states to sell and to buy. If you don’t find a deal, you aren’t trying!
